Hand and pain numbness

Recently, I began to experience pain and numbness in both of my hands. I thought it was carpal tunnel and I might need to have surgery. Since my job requires a lot of time at the computer, I need my hands or I am out of work. I was beginning to wonder if I would need to look for another job. So I went to my medical doctor to find out what was wrong.

I was surprised when my doctor suggested that I go to see a chiropractor. He said it could be a pinched nerve in my neck. So I made an appointment to see Dr. Oberheu.

After examination, Dr. Oberheu took x-rays and showed where my problem was. After the very first adjustment, I was feeling better. It has been just two weeks now and all of my pain and most of the numbness is gone.

I am so happy with the care I am receiving, that I have had my husband come to see Dr. Oberheu for his neck and shoulder pain and he is getting better, also.

I also thank my medical doctor for suggesting I see a chiropractor. He could have just prescribed pain pills and I would have never discovered what was really wrong. I think it is great that medical doctors and chiropractors are now beginning to work together.

"I have been a patient of Dr. Richard Oberheu's since 2009. When I first began going to him, I had recently had a shoulder injury from a horse incident. I also had some chronic issues with my back and neck from working as a dental assistant and in my business, Captured Simplicity, as a photographer. Dr. Oberheu was also the first to diagnose my scoliosis and after taking x-rays explain to me what was going on with my back. He has helped me immensely. It has made my work of capturing weddings and family smiles so much more enjoyable."

Leg and foot pain (weakness)

Over the years I experienced lower back pain. It would come and go. I just thought it was part of getting older. Then, I started to get leg pain. First on one side, then on the other. I saw my doctor and thought he would send me for surgery. Instead, he suggested I see a chiropractor. I was surprised, but thankful. I did not want surgery.

It was my first visit to the chiropractor, and I did not know what to expect. I explained my condition and Dr. Oberheu took an x-ray. He spent time with me and showed me how my spine wa out of alignment. I also had a degenerated disc in my lower back. I was also losing strength in my left foot and did not even realize it. My reflex was almost gone when he tapped on my tendon. I was a mess.

I guess I was just like a lot of people my age, in my fifties, I had just let it go too long.

Now for the good news. It has been 2 months, and I am feeling much better. Dr. Oberheu told me it would take time, as I had let it go for so long. But my pain is gone in my back and leg, and my strength in my foot is 50% improved. I was starting to drag my foot, it had gotten so bad. I just thought I was clumsy.

Now, I am happy. My doctor is happy. And Dr. Oberheu is happy.

I would recommend chiropractic adjustments for anyone with back and leg pain and weakness.

Migraine headaches

This is about my son who suffered with severe migraine headaches.

When Carl was in 4th grade, his headaches started. Then in 5th and 6th grade, they got progressively worse. Finally, he was missing so much school that his doctor referred him to the Mayo Clinic.

At Mayo Clinic, they diagnosed migraine headaches and gave Carl two different medications. He took the new pills every day. At first they seemed to help, but then Carl's headaches were just as bad as before. I took CArl to the University of Chicago. They gave us the same diagnosis and more pills. Still the headaches continued.

Finally, someone told me about Dr. Oberheu. No one in our family had ever been to a chiropractor before. But we had to do something as Carl was missing so much school that he was going to have to repeat the 7th grade.

Dr. Oberheu told me that Carl had a subluxation. I learned that this was a bone out of place in his spine. As it turned out, it was in his upper back.

At first it didn't make any sense to me. How could a bone out of place in your back cause such severe headaches? Then Dr. Oberheu explained to me that the nerves in your upper back can affect the blood flow to your head.

To make a long story short, after three visits with Dr. Oberheu, Carl's headaches were gone.

Thank you, Dr. Oberheu. You truly saved my son's life.

Herniated disc

When I was in high school, I injured my lower back. The doctors diagnosed a herniated disc. Since I was deathly afraid of surgery, I just put up with it. That was in 1970.

Over the years, I took drugs for inflammation, pain, muscle spasm. I went through physical therapy. It would help as long as I was careful, but I always had to be careful and I always had pain. If I would bend the wrong way, I would get a pain down my right leg. I just figured I would live with it.

I didn't want to have surgery as I knew others who had surgery and they were either no better or worse.

I had known Dr. Oberheu since high school, but never consulted him as the doctors told me to stay away from chiropractors. I was told I could be paralyzed.

Finally, my back went out so bad I could not stand up straight and the pain was terrible down my leg. I figured I would have to go under the knife, but instead I called Dr. Oberheu. What did I have to lose?

I can only tell you, I was amazed. Within one adjustment, I felt I was cured. I was able to stand up straight, the pain in my leg was gone, and I only had a slight lower back pain.

I am now a regular patient. I go in once a month just to keep it in shape. Sometimes I still have pain, but nothing like I had over the years. I am so sorry the doctors scared me away. I lost many good years that I could have done so many other things that I wanted to do, but could not.

No matter what others tell you, chiropractors can help you even if you have a herniated disc.

Back surgery

Eight years ago, I lifted a patio table into the back of my truck and felt my back go out. It just felt like something slipped. I had never been to see Dr. Oberheu before, but I knew him from playing golf together. He moved my back around and checked my reflexes. Then he took x-rays. Even before he took the x-rays, he told me I probably had a herniated disc.

After reviewing the x-rays with me, he gave me a gentle adjustment. It helped a little, but by the next day it was still the same. he had me use ice and kept working on it for the next few days.

Finally, he told me I would need an MRI.

A couple days later, the MRI showed just what he said it was: a herniated disc. He referred me to a surgeon and they said I would need surgery. Since I go to the Mayo Clinic every year for a complete physical, I decided to get a second opinion from them.

At the Mayo Clinic, I had a complete examination and a review of my records. I still remember the doctor saying to me, "not so quick, sometimes these problems will right themselves." So I came home with the idea that I would give it a little more time.

Over the next few weeks, I rested, and then I went back to see Dr. Oberheu. I told him that I would like to try one more time to see if he could help me. This time it worked. After seeing him that day, I felt tremendous relief and finally, after a couple of weeks, my problem was resolved.

I can only tell you that I have complete confidence in Dr. Oberheu as a chiropractor. He did not try to string me along with lots of visits. His concern was for me and I could tell that he was willing to do whatever it took to help me. I would recommend him to anyone.

Chest pain

Last Friday after dinner, I started getting a pain in my chest. It just kept getting worse until it felt like I was having a heart attack. My arms felt tingling. I had my husband drive me to the hospital. They ran an EKG and all the tests, and I ended up in the hospital overnight. On Saturday, I was released. They told me to contact my family doctor on Monday.

After seeing my primary care physician on Monday, he told me that all my tests were normal. He also assured me that I did not have a heart attack. Then he did something I did not expect. He asked me if I had a chiropractor. I was shocked.

On Monday, I called Dr. Oberheu.

The staff at Dr. Oberheu's office was super. They listened with concern about my terrible weekend. Next, Dr. Oberheu examined me and took some x-rays. When he put the x-rays up, I could see for myself that my spine was bent sideways in my middle back.

After the first time with Dr. Oberheu, I felt better right away. It was so odd. I went from what I thought was a heart attach to a chiropractor and I got better.

Looking back on the whole episode, I am convinced I did the right thing going to the hospital. Dr. Oberheu told me the same thing. After all, it could have been a heart attack. But he also educated me about chiropractic and I am so glad he did.

Orthotics

I was working at the Cook Plant 6 and 7 days a week for long hours. Just standing on my feet all that time was killing me. My arches hurt and the balls of my feet ached. I went to see a podiatrist and he wrapped my feet and made me a set of orthotics. At first, they seemed to help, but after a few days it was the same old thing.

The podiatrist diagnosed plantar fasciitis. He said if it didn't clear up, I would need surgery.

I was also seeing Dr. Oberheu at the time for my lower back, but I didn't think to ask him about my feet.

Then one day, he was checking my lower back and out of the blue asked if I was having any hip or leg pain. I told him about my feet.

After a quick checkup, he explained to me that I had flat feet (pronation). He also asked me to bring in my orthotics so he could look at them. After looking at the hard plastic inserts I got from my podiatrist, he suggested that I have him make a set of custom made Foot Levelers.

Dr. Oberheu explained to me that the foot levelers he was going to make would have more support in different areas and that they would be corrective and comfortable.

Dr. Oberheu was right. After wearing the new foot levelers for 2 weeks, my pain was completely gone. I cannot tell you how happy I am. I would recommend Foot Levelers to anyone who is having problems with their feet.
